On the 62th World Deaf Day of Sept. 22, the final and award ceremony of “Suibao Cup” the 2nd National Reciting Competition for the Hearing-impaired was held in the Library. It was co-organized by the China Association of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and Sun Yat-sen Library of Guangdong Province, under the guidance of the China Disabled Persons' Federation and the Guangdong Disabled Persons’ Federation. Such leaders as Liu Zaijun, Vice Chairman of China Disabled Persons' Federation, Honorary Chairman of China Association of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Yang Yang, Chairman of the Association, Fan Yitao,Vice Chairman, Zhang Yongan, Chairman of Guangdong Disabled Persons’ Federation, Ji Jianwen, Deputy Consultant of Public Service Division of Guangdong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, Wang Huijun, Director of the Library, Li Yiping, Deputy Director, those of hearing-impairment and library visitors, altogether some 300 persons made their presence here.
The Library jointly working with China Association of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, initiated the 1st National Reciting Competition for the Hearing-impaired in 2017, in active response to implement President Xi Jinping's thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, with the aim of enriching those people’s spiritual and cultural life. Since then, this event has received positive response of concerned Associations at all levels. This year, it attracted 110 items for competition from 21 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, and 45 persons made it to the final, the youngest being 4 years old, and the eldest 56. Noticeably, over 280,000 viewed the event online through NetEase Live Broadcast Platform.
The Competition was generously sponsored and supported by Guangzhou Ivy Home Fitting Co., Ltd., Guangdong Lions Club, Guangdong Recitation Association, NetEase News and other non-profit organizations and benevolent enterprises. It was also reported by major media as Chinanews.com, Southern Daily, and Yangcheng Evening News, etc.
