The President-elect of IFLA Arrives for Visit and Exchange

On the afternoon of July 19th, Christie Mackenzie, the President-elect of International Federation of of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), visited the Library, accompanied by Cheng Huanwen, Professor of Sun Yat-sen University and Vice President Library Society of China. They were well received by the Library Director Wang Huijun, and Deputy Director Ni Junming and Li Yiping.

Deputy Director Ni Junming, introduced the history and the characteristics of the Library, and showed the visiting guests around some main service windows such as the Chinese Newspaper Room, Guangdong Provincial Center for Book Donation and Exchange, the Chinese Book Reading Room, Special Collections Exhibition Hall and Reading Room, Ancient Books Restoration and Conservation Room. Ms. Christine Mackenzie toured an ongoing exhibition themed with “Lingnan Treasures—Special Exhibition for Ancient Books of Sun Yat-sun Library of Guangdong Province and Exhibition of Achievements of Guangdong Ancient Books Protection”. Upon seeing a wide variety of ancient items, she spoke highly of the achievements in the field by the Library since the Chinese Ancient Books Protection Plan’s implementation.

Director Wang Huijun elaborated on the Library’s work principles and efforts in providing a variety of cultural services for the public, supporting cultural development in less developed areas, and promoting the dissemination of knowledge and cultural equality across the province, of which the fruits were impressive to her.
