Guidelines
Governing Use of the Library
|
Please do not engage in any illegal activity or behavior.
|

Please do not vandalize library facilities, equipment, or materials. |
|
Please do not enter without shoes or shirt. |
|
Please do not bring in animals except guide dogs. |
|
Please do not harass other library users or library staff (physical, sexual, or verbal abuse). |
|
Please do not sell, solicit, panhandle, or loiter. |
|
Please do not distribute leaflets or post notices not authorized by the library administration. |
|
Please do not eat, drink, smoke, or sleep. |
|
Please do not leave children unattended. |
|
Please do not talk loudly or make noise that other library users can hear. |
|
Please do not talk on cell phone in reading room or stocks. |
|
Please do not bring in bulky items that take up excessive space. |
|
Please do not remove library materials from the building without charging them out. The violated will be |
| |
fined for ten to thirty times. |
|
Please do not enter the library if you have neglected your bodily hygiene so that it gives offense and |
| |
constitutes a nuisance to other patrons. |
|
Please put bags and other personal belongings not needed for use in the library to bag storage. |
|
Please keep tidy in the library. No scribbling and no littering. |
|
Please follow the regulations of the library and obey the management of the staff. |
|
Any damage to or loss of the properties of the library will be payable to those causing it (should be |

compensated by those causing it). |

Library Card
Who can apply for?
Chinese and foreign readers older than 16.
Types of Library Card

Chinese Book Card -- for check out Chinese books / a pass to enter Chinese book stock. |

Foreign Book Card -- for check out foreign books / a pass to enter foreign book stock. |

Chinese Periodical Card -- for check out Chinese periodicals. |

Library Card Application & Details
Chinese Book Card
You can apply for a Chinese Book card at the
Library Card Registration Counter with your ID
card. An application form, two photos, a yearly
membership fee of ¥5.00 and a deposit of ¥40.00
are required.
Foreign Book Card
You can apply for a foreign book card at the
Library Card Registration Counter with your ID
card. An application form, two photos, a yearly
membership fee of ¥5.00 and a deposit of ¥500.00
are required.
Chinese Periodical Card
You can apply for a Chinese Periodical card
at the Library Card Registration Counter with
your ID card. An application form, two photos, a
yearly membership fee of ¥5.00 and a deposit of
¥40.00 are required.
Study Room Reader Card
You can apply for a Study Room Reader card
at the Library Card Registration Counter with
your ID card. An application form, one photo, a
half-year membership fee of ¥50.00 are required.
Multi-media Room Reader Card
You can apply for a Multi-media reader card
and open a prepaid ¥25.00 account with your ID
card and one photo. You will be debited at a
rate of ¥2 per hour for computer use and
internet access. You can refill your prepaid
account when your balance runs out.
Without a Multi-media reader card, you may be
charged a rate of ¥3.00 per hour for computer
use and internet access.
How to Renew a Library Card?
A library card is valid for one year. You
can renew it before the expiry date.
Report a lost, misplaced or stolen card
Lost library cards should be reported
immediately to the Library. You may report lost
cards by phone or by visiting the Library Card
Registration Counter. A lost or damaged card
will be replaced at the rate of ¥5.00.
You are responsible for all use of your library
card, until it is reported lost.
Reporting lost cards will prevent others from
borrowing materials under your name.
Refund of deposit
Your Library Card deposit (incl. Chinese
book/ Foreign book, Chinese periodical card)
will be refunded when a card cancellation
request is made. You must go to the Library Card
Registration Counter with your ID card and your
library card to make the cancellation and
request your deposit refunded.
Change of address or name?
Please let us know so your library card can
be updated. Identification must be provided.

Circulation Policy
How long can you borrow a book?
A four-week period both for Chinese books and
books in foreign languages and a three-week
period for Chinese Periodicals.
Rare books, reference materials, newspaper,
periodicals in foreign languages, books of
Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau, audio-visual
materials, films, CDs, and other non-book
materials,
usually are not circulated.
How many books can you borrow?
You can borrow three both for the Chinese Book
Card and the Chinese Periodical Card; and two
for the Foreign Language Book Card.
Reserves
You may reserve in person or by phone
(Circulation Desk Tel: 83825707). We will notify
you by phone when the materials are available.
(Circulating Chinese books whose call number
starts with letter “I” are out of reservation
service.)
Late returning a book?
The overdue fine is 10 cents per day per item.
Lost materials?
You will be charged up to 10 times of the
purchase price of the lost materials.
Library Equipment
Public catalogue computers, located in
the lobby of the Chinese Book Lending Section on
the 2nd floor, are in service on a first come,
first served basis. However, those computers are
used for library information and catalogue
search only, unavailable for internet access.

please use the computers in the Multi-media

Photocopiers are available in every
reading room.
Fax service is available at the Reference
Service desk in the lobby.
Scanner is available in the Multi-Media
room.
