On the afternoon of 23 Jun, the 9th Library Cup Guangdong English Speaking Competition & the 1st National Library Cup English Speaking Talent Show (Guangdong Division) was held in the Library, where 17 finalists screened out from over 30,000 participants demonstrated their outstanding English language skills and fine stage manners. Xu Yulan, the Library Deputy Director addressed the Competition, and Luo Chunrong, General Secretory of Guangdong Academic Library and Information Committee, concurrently Deputy Director of Sun Yat-sen University Library, and Chen Weidong, General Secretory of Library Society Guangdong, concurrently Head of the Department of Research and Library Work Guidance of the Library also made their presence.
The Competition, themed with “Cheer for Our Motherland · Libraries, Make the World Listen”, was co-organized by Library Society Guangdong, Guangdong Academic Library and Information Committee, and Sun Yat-sen Library of Guangdong Province, joined by 58 public libraries and 115 university libraries across the province. It operated on the mode of “Online Preliminary + On-site Final”, by adopting modern digital service technology and integrating the force of cultural and educational sectors. Focusing on the theme, participants showed their ideas on looking back at the glorious years of New China, pondering over the brilliant and great changes today and eulogizing the construction and development of the motherland. Besides, winners of the Competition will be recommended to the 1st National Library Cup English Speaking Talent Show.
It is an effective integration of cultural and educational resources, and all through the years organizing such great event, the Library has reinforced its good social image. Continuous efforts will be made for better serving the public so as to improve cultural service efficiency and push forward cultural prosperity across the province.
